No Drugs Implication Life (NDIL) has recognized since long
the social, economic, familial and societal consequences of drug abuse and felt
the need to dress the issue which affiliated by UNDCP (United Nations Drug
Control Program), CONGO (The Conference of NGOs with Consultative relationship
with the United Nations) & IHRA..The programs of NDIL gave wide publicity
through national Dailies giving a clarion call to the various organizations,
individuals, social workers, teachers and students to come forward and
undertake the task to stamp out the drug menace from the country by forming
committee at local level so as to create national anti drug network. There was
unprecedented response from all quarters and nowadays our program forwarded at
54 districts out of 64 districts in Bangladesh.
No Drugs Implication Life (NDIL) is a widely acclaimed initiative in Bangladesh and abroad. Started primarily with prevention activities over a period of time with the changing circumstances, NDIL programme has been expanded to many other dimensions including addiction treatment and rehabilitation of the recovered. Institutionalization of NDIL begins with the establishment a treatment and rehabilitation centre for the `drug’ users in 2004. NDIL Centres aims at sustainable recovery and rehabilitation of the clientele groups in their personal, social and familial life. The mission is to bring behavioural change among the drug dependant clients by providing comprehensive treatment. It is very important to rehabilitate and reintegrate the drug users in the family and society. Poor, marginalized and disadvantage drug users specifically require treatment and rehabilitation support. In order to achieve this drug treatment and rehabilitation centers will be established by NDIL in all of the divisional cities. MAJOR ACTIVITIES Awareness Rising Preventive activities of the NDIL programme include awareness creation among parents, vulnerable youths and others through distribution of posters, stickers, leaflets, organizing public meetings, seminar, symposium and discussion meetings, holding of essay competition, debate and through personal contact. Curative activities include identification of victims of drug addiction through the local level branch committees. Training Courses The branch committee are required to create awareness among the members of the public, the parents and youths including students so as to create a movement against drug abuse. To carryout these tasks he local level Branch Committee members need to be trained on different aspects of the drug problem. No Drugs Implication Life (NDIL) organized a number of Training Courses on Masters Trainers. These Master Trainers are nominated by the Branch Committees on the basis of set criteria. These trainers after attending the Training Courses, go back to their respective community and are required to organize local workers Training Course, where they transfer their experience, knowledge and skill gathered from the Master Training Courses. In addition to these cumulative training programme orientation courses are organised for different types/groups of people such as students of vulnerable age group, community and religious leaders and village elder men, teachers, of primary and secondary schools and also colleges under the school campaign programme of NDIL. Orientation Course In addition to the Master Trainers’ course, orientation courses are organized for different types/groups of people such as students of vulnerable age group, community and religious leaders, teachers of primary and secondary schools and colleges under the school campaign programme of NDIL. Materials Development Training & Materials Development Division of NDIL has so far developed and published various awareness creation materials including 9 posters, 6 leaflets, 15 stickers and 1 flip chart and 5 calendars. Apart from these, Monthly Wall Magazines, Monthly News Bulletins and special bulletins are also published as information dissemination and awareness creation materials. The Branch Committees have also been very active in development of awareness creation and publicity materials. They have developed various types of caps, T-Shirts, souvenir on various occasions, hand made posters and leaf-lets etc. on HIV/AIDS, Anti-drug and Anti-Tobacco activities. Treatment and Rehabilitation Centres Realising the need and urgency of treatment of drug dependent and the need for after-care & rehabilitation, NDIL established 3 multidisciplinary treatment and rehabilitation centre for the drug users in the country. This treatment centres also responsible to organise programmes and activities for the rehabilitation of the recovering drug users both economically and socially. At present NDIL is providing treatment for the drug users and rehabilitation support including job placement to recovering addict through its five centers situated at Dhaka, Sirajgonj, Jassore, Satkhira and all over Bangladesh. We urge to all national and international development partners and individuals to extend their support to materialize the dream. |
